Contact Lenses vs. Eyeglasses

One benefit of contact lenses over eyeglasses is their convenience. Contact lenses are worn directly on your eye, and they do not obstruct your vision like eyeglasses. This means you don’t have to take them off every time you want to do something that requires good vision such as playing sports. Also, contact lenses provide more accurate vision correction than eyeglasses. Eyeglasses can sometimes cause distortion or light leakage, which can affect your vision. Contact lenses are designed to fit directly on your eye and provide a clean image with no distortion or light leakage.

Types of Contact Lenses

Contact lenses can be divided into several different categories:

  • Soft contact lenses: These lenses are made from plastics that are soft and flexible. They are very comfortable and can be worn for weeks. These contacts are virtually invisible to others and work well for people who need a great vision for sports or another specific activity.
  • Rigid gas-permeable (RGP) contact lenses: These contacts are similar to soft lenses but have a more durable structure. They are made from a harder material that makes them appropriate for people who need to see over long distances. These lenses are more visible under the eye but they can work well for some people. A major advantage of these lenses is that they allow oxygen to get into the eye.
  • Disposable soft contact lenses: These contacts are also similar to traditional soft contacts but can be thrown away after just a few uses. They are good for people who want to try contact lenses in the most convenient way possible.
